지진 참사로 인한 후유증으로 약탈과 파괴, 죽은자들에 대한소식이 들려오곤 있지만 아이티의 수도 포르토프랭스의 거리에서는 잠자는 사람들을 돌보고 자비를 베푸는 사람들의 감동적인 이야기와 하나님의 변함없는 사랑에 대한 찬양의 목소리도 들려오고 있습니다.
아이티에는 MCC에서 파송한 16명의 사역자들이 있습니다. 그들은 지금 모두 안전합니다. 우리는 계속해서 더 많은일꾼들을 아이티로 보낼 것입니다. 긴급 구호 자금도 보냈고 앞으로도 더 보내기로 했습니다.
이번 아이티 지진 참사로 인해 육체적, 정신적, 정서적인 피해를 입고 고통 당하는 많은 사람들과 그곳의 무너진 건물들을 재건하고 장기적으로 필요한 것들이 무엇인지를 파악하기 위해 우리는 현장 조사팀을 보내기로 했습니다. 우리는아이티에서 사역하고 있는 메노나이트 교회를 도울 수 있는 방법을 찾고 있습니다. (지금으로선 아이티 메노나이트 교회가 이번 지진으로 인해 얼마나 큰 피해를 입었는지 파악되지 않고 있습니다)

Dear MWC Members:
Many of us see tragedy unfolding in our communities on a daily basis. We also see God’s power at work in our communities on a daily basis. In MCC we are continuing to see the love of God amidst the tragedy unfolding in Haiti. Estimates today state that the death toll may reach to 200,000 people, and if it does, the death toll would be among the top ten known earthquakes.
Amidst the stories of death, destruction, and looting we also hear the stories of people helping strangers, and of singing about God’s steadfast love as people sleep in the streets and open places of Port-au-Prince. MCC has 16 program workers in Haiti, and thankfully all are safe. We have sent extra workers to Haiti, and we have released funds for their use for immediate needs for the people of Haiti. We will be sending an assessment team to work at long-term rebuilding of livelihoods, emotional well-being, and homes in Haiti. We will be seeking ways to support the witness of the Mennonite churches in Haiti. (At this time we are not able to report on the impact of the earthquake on Mennonite churches in Haiti).
